We put the Sony VPL-HW40ES up against the Panasonic AE8000 and this is what transpired. The Sony, on the bottom, has 1,700 lumens and a 120000:1 contrast ratio while the Panasonic has 2,400 lumens and a 500000:1 contrast ratio. The HW40ES has a feature called Reality Creation, which makes for an incredibly sharp, crystal clear picture and that was turned on in this shoot. Please keep in mind that any flaws and/or lines that you may see in the image are not from the projectors, but from the video recording. Our experts could not get over the clarity that the Sony HW40ES displayed. You can find more detailed information on the Sony VPL-HW40ES here: http://www.projectorpeople.com/Sony-VPLHW40ES/Projector/29971 and much more information on the Panasonic AE8000 here: http://www.projectorpeople.com/Panasonic-PTAE8000U/Projector/27643
