Art Class Oil Painting Demo River and Spring Trees - Enjoy this free Oil Painting Lesson by Bill Inman filmed in Muncie, Indiana.

Learn to paint those overwhelming greens of Spring by mixing reds, blues and yellows to achieve a variety of beautiful light infused spring greens while throwing in the White River for fun. Paint sun dappled trees and cool shadows. I use a photo reference to teach my students how to quickly capture the essence of spring with bright moisture filled air softening and enhancing the play of light and shadow - so much beautiful color to play with.

We talk a lot about light and contrasting shadows, composition, edge quality, color harmonies of red and green and warm and cool color temperatures. We also discuss the need for painting from life and from references you are personally familiar with.

If you've ever struggled with too much green in a scene and how to determine color temperature, or how to avoid 'muddy' colors, discover how to create a wide range of greens for trees and grasses in an impressionistic style beginning with abstract and loosely defined shapes.

There are moments where nothing seems to be happening - that is when I am thinking and analyzing.

I do not have the equipment to mic the students so their questions are often lost. Hopefully that will not detract from the overall learning opportunity.

About the Artist:

Learn from impressionist Bill Inman as he demonstrates for his class how to breathe life into loose abstract color masses.

He teaches a 3 hour painting class twice a month in his studio and thought these videos would be helpful for his students to refer back to. He then decided to share these with his followers on YouTube.

He is classically trained with 5 years of figure, head and fashion drawing from the model and holds an MFA in studio painting.

He sells his work through galleries around the country as a full time artist.

These colors and techniques generally apply equally well with oil or acrylic paint.

"My goal is to help viewers feel like they are looking out a window or doorway into a beautiful scene, one that beckons to forget the world a while and simply enjoy the peace and serenity, the incredible beauty Heavenly Father has provided."

His art studio address is in Muncie, Indiana - if you want more information about classes call (765) 749-0210. Class size is limited and the class is designed for experienced students.
