Took my Kowa LM8HC 8mm f1.4 to a local desert frisbee park to check out using it in bright mid-day sun with a variable neutral density filter. As expected, the vari-nd was of limited value, as at any setting over about 30% produced very difficult darkening in the sky. Fine for static shots, but forget about moving. Ended up having to stop way down and/or reduce shutter. This will happen with any wide lens, but I was hoping that stepping up from the Kowa's 55mm front thread to an 82mm filter would help minimize the problem.

Still, I really like this lens when paired with the right ND, and I have no complaints at all about this lens in low light situations.

The Kowa LM8HC 8mm f1.4 comfortably covers not only the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera's Super-16 sensor, but also the Panasonic GH-4 in 4K mode. No modifications to the lens were needed, but a modification to the Micro Four-Thirds adapter was, as the lens will not seat all the way into most stock adapters. I removed the 3 screws holding the knurled rear section of the lens, and the barrel fit perfectly into a combo M42/C-Mount to MFT adapter. Even better, the flush mounting of the rear barrel to the flat adapter surface put the lens at exactly the right distance! So, it was simply a matter of drilling 3 holes through the adapter, and remounting the lens with the original screws.
