Here is a detailed tutorial on using AutoCAD Mechanical 2013 to create a 3D model of a screw. Commands used include User Coordinate System (UCS), REVOLVE, EXTRUDE, INTERSECT, and FILLETEDGE, with special attention given to the HELIX and SWEEP commands. I address some of the commonly encountered pitfalls that so vexed me when first learning these functions. It's plenty long, but I have tried to pack in a lot of detail, so if you want to play along at home, get familiar with the pause button.
