Open-crank two-stroke engine. Original design by Jan Ridders of The Netherlands.
Utilises a pair of pressure operated ball valves to control mixture flow from the vapourising carburetter to below and then above piston. A conventional piston-port controls the exhaust. Runs best on regular unleaded petrol, but will also run on Coleman fuel / lighter fluid. For a full description of operation check out this website:
This engine is easy to build, but great care must be taken with the cast-iron piston and cylinder which require lapping to obtain a good seal with low friction. I used valve grinding paste on wooden laps followed by metal polish and finally jewellers rouge.
