Insight on two techniques for removing the cam sprockets on Toyota's 3.0 L. V6, the 3VZ-E. These techniques/tools are alternatives to specialty tools designed to hold cam sprockets.

Make your strap wrench using:

1 - 2x3 or 2x4
4 - 5/16 in. x 2-1/2 in. Hex Head Lag Screw
4 - 5/16 in. x 1-1/2 in. Fender Washer
1 - Sacrificial Timing Belt

Fold 16" of timing belt onto itself, teeth meshing. Fasten along 8" of the edge of your 2x3 or 2x4 with lag bolts at 1, 3, 5 & 7".

Wind entire belt around Cam Sprocket in a clockwise direction. Secure strap wrench handle by pressing against the timing belt encircling the sprocket.

Wrench. Enjoy!
