I mow about five acres and have always wanted a big mower to cut mowing time from most of a day to a couple of hours. The ones I have looked at were all from about $13,000 on up to over $20,000. I just hate to spend that much on a mower. For years I thought I could build one for a lot less, so two years ago I built a deck to pull behind my Honda ATV. It worked great in the open fields, but really slowed me down around the trees. Lots of backing up. I had about $3500 in it in materials. For a 23 hp 72" mower that would mow at 15 mph thats not too bad.

Last summer I got it in my head to make a ZTR out of it. The hydro's / motors were about $3500 alone and I really didn't want to spend that much with another $2000 for incidentals. So, one day when riding my cycle, I ran across a 48" ZTR Snapper at Vaskies in Bancroft Ia. (which uses the same 'Wheel Motors' as their 72" does with a blown engine for $800). Perfect. (Chuck always takes care of me). This winter (2012-2013) I decided to mate the two units. I have a total of about $5500 and my time in a comparablele to a $18,000 mower. Plus, I had a great time building it.

All done now. Time to work on the Cycle to get ready for spring... ;-)
