This six degree-of-freedom simulator was designed and built entirely by us for our senior project in mechanical engineering at SJSU. This is the demo we gave during our final presentation. We are currently only utilizing pitch and roll as we have not had any time to test and tune the control system. For this video the pitch and roll angles were limited to +/- 18 degrees.

The motors are Animatics 615W SmartMotors with 70:1 gearheads. We are using X-sim (www.x-sim.de) for physics data extraction and manipulation. X-sim outputs 6 variables in real-time that represent the position and orientation of the cockpit and our kinematic algorithms then determine the proper position of each motor.

Once we have done more testing and mapped the workspace boundaries of the motion platform, we'll be able to safely increase the amount of rotation to a theoretical maximum of around +/- 24 degrees, and introduce the remaining 4 degrees of freedom (sway, surge, heave, and yaw).
