She is a tall-rig ketch version, with a modified fin-keel and skeg-hung rudder. Her 90 hp turbo diesel auxiliary was never used all that day - except for leaving and returning to the marina. While motoring or motorsailing however, this boat can cruise at 9 knots. It was my last solo-sail before selling, due to our interest in her being somewhat one-sided.
With a displacement of 18,000 pounds, these boats weren't built for sailing speed, but on that day winds started light at 8-10 knots in the morning - with sailing speed variable at 5 + knots. Winds increased to 25-28 knots in the early afternoon, where I had her sailing at 7 + knots - close to hull speed. I had to put the camera down during the higher winds - which increased even more by mid-afternoon - just after the end clip of this video.
The music score consists of: "From Here You Can Almost See the Sea" and an excerpt from "Alibi" at the end - both from David Gray's album - "Life in Slow Motion". The middle track is "Recuerdos De Jerez" from Luis Villegas' album - "Casa Villegas".
